Alpha Delights European Bakery and Cafe will not lose its continental flair under new owners Kelly and Edoardo La Torre.
The La Torres bought Alpha Delights, 143 N. Wisconsin St., from Mary Pappas and Richard Martens in November. Edoardo La Torre was born in Italy and his mother, Stela Barzache, is of Italian and Greek descent.
Barzache is partly responsible for the La Torres purchasing Alpha Delights. She was visiting over the summer and thinking about opening a restaurant in Florida. One thing led to another, and Edoardo discovered Alpha Delights was for sale in De Pere.
"We brought (Stela) here and she loved the restaurant, loved the food and loved the atmosphere," Kelly La Torre said.
After meeting with Pappas, they made the 17-year-old De Pere restaurant a family business. It is their first time running a restaurant. Edoardo manages a cheese factory and Kelly has a sales background.
The La Torres are keeping the dozen Alpha Delights employees, and Pappas is aiding the transition.
"We will continue with the legacy Mary created with this business," Kelly La Torre said.
But there are also some new elements. Barzache is providing authentic Italian recipes to add to the menu, joining existing offerings. "Alpha Delights has a really big following that loves very specific things," La Torre said of maintaining menu offerings.
Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays. The restaurant is closed Sundays and Mondays.
"In the future, we would like to expand evening hours and serve dinner, and we would like to try brunch," La Torre said.
